The National Gallery Imaginarium

Q42 | The Fabrique

Created in collaboration with The National Gallery, Fabrique, and Q42, The Imaginarium is an interactive online experience designed to reimagine how audiences engage with art in the digital age. Developed in Three.js, the project invites users to explore paintings through soundscapes, poetry, guided interaction, and subtle animation—transforming traditional museum viewing into a deeply personal, imaginative journey.

As lead 3D designer, I supported creative direction and played a key role in translating conceptual ideas into a coherent visual and interactive reality. Working closely with the teams at Fabrique and Q42, I helped shape the creative vision, from spatial composition and user flow to the emotional tone of the experience. I was responsible for building and lighting one of the main environments—crafted entirely in Cinema 4D, with lighting baked directly into the model to ensure performance and visual consistency. With the help of a single technical developer, we transformed the concept into a fully realized, functional digital space.

The result is a dreamlike, browser-based experience that dissolves the line between art and audience. The Imaginarium encourages slow looking and personal reflection rather than passive observation—offering a poetic, technology-driven encounter that reframes what a gallery visit can feel like in the virtual world.
